January to March 2026 Update

The last three months has been quite busy!

First off, Happy International Women’s Day and for residents of British Columbia, happiest of days of no longer turning our clocks for the foreseeable future!

Conference and speaking engagements preparations are under-way; in particular, for the Canadian Risk and Hazard Network (CRHNet)’s Symposium held in Edmonton, May 12-14th, where I’ll be presenting a lightning topic on the upcoming “Federal Emergency Measures” standard through Accessibility Standards Canada. I will highlight briefly the previous public consultation on “Emergency Egress” standards that has closed. Secondly, I’ll be moderating a “Fireside Chat” on “Accessibility and Community Connections”.

During Canada’s Emergency Preparedness Week in May, I’ll be presenting virtually through Guide Dogs for the Blind’s Speaker Series on “Emergency Preparedness 101”. Additionally, an article submission in the Alumni News will supplement the presentation.

The City of Prince George hosted a “Be Ready” event from March 5-7 at Pine Center Mall. I was present on March 7th as an “Ask the Expert” on emergency preparedness for People with Disabilities (PWD) as well as providing educational opportunities on guide dog and blindness etiquette.

As part of my ongoing professional development and education, I continue to seek out virtual learning opportunities on advocacy for people with disabilities, emergency management-specific topics, and other general interest topics to supplement my university studies towards my Bachelor’s Degree.

If you or your organization would like to have a conversation on emergency preparedness and mitigation, especially during Tsunami Preparedness Week (April 12-18) or Emergency Preparedness Week (May 3-9), please send me an email or fill out the online form!
